Into the Abyss

My kids ran ahead of us past some strangers darting into the Banco de España metro station in Madrid. They love to ride the subway, especially my son who likes all of the underground tunnels.

From the late 70s to the mid 80s I shot almost exclusively in black and white. Mostly Tri-X and a little Plus-X. Shooting in B&W taught me to see the quality of light because you couldn't rely on the color of a scene to carry the interest of the image. Light, shadow, tonality, contrast, composition and direction of motion are some of the things you have to rely upon to make a successful image. Hopefully, this image succeeds on some of those levels.
